My fave cookbook has been...

translated into English!!

La Bonne Cuisine de Madame E. Saint-Ange

From the review on page 58 of the November Gourmet:

"It would be difficult to overestimate the service rendered to monolingual English and American cooks by the translation of this massive, instructive, and in its way, very funny book, first published in 1927...her recipes, frank opinions, and techniques have influenced generations of cooks including Julia Child and Madeleine Kamman, who says that she was taught to cook from Madame E. Saint-Ange's book by her mother, and "learned one hundred times more from it than I did from Escoffier"..."

This is a great book, one of those I turn to often. The original does not have photos and has a recipe format that is quite unlike our more modern American cookbooks - takes some getting used to. I am anxious to see an actual copy of the translated version to see what, if any format changes were made. It comes out in December, hopefully in time for Christmas!!! I love this book.

Yes, indeed, sigh.  If I buy any more cookbooks my DH will disown me, my children will have me committed, but our library will put up a memorial plaque to honor my name when all my books are donated to them. LOL

Veni, vidi, velcro        I came,  I  saw,  I stuck around.

lol  I feel your pain!  It's been especially difficult since my DH decided to "retire" and work a little out of our house.....now he's aware of the boxes that are coming here from Chapters with my name on them...doesn't have to ask what it is.........  :)

Wow, they'll have to add more shelves to the cookbook section. :)

It is available now from Amazon

Always take a good look at what you're about to eat. It's not so important to know what it is, but it's critical to know what it was.

Age is unimportant unless you’re a cheese.

Cool! I still need to locate it somewhere locally so I can look at a copy before I buy it for gifts. Just to check it out.

I have the original version and I read French so I wouldn't buy it for myself.
